Bio: My name is Jeff and I run a Facebook page called Defying Obesity. In December 2014, I had gastric bypass surgery and saved my life. I weighed 533 pounds, and although I had no other health issues, the weight was starting to effect my quality of life, and I knew if I didn't do something. my health would decline and I'd have issues. I always lived my life to the fullest I could - the weight wasn't going to stop me. I was an avid hiker, loved to travel, and visited Disney as often as I could. It was a trip to Disney that I discovered that I could no longer fit into some of my favorite rides that finally made me reach my breaking point. I researched options, found a surgery facility to perform the surgery, got all my necessary approvals, and started my new journey. Today I am proud to call myself an "Obesity Survivor" as I have lost over 310 pounds since my surgery. I currently serve as a member of the weight bias committee for the Obesity Action Coalition (OAC), admin a support group on Facebook, and have become a mentor for others facing the same problem I did. The disease of Obesity can be overcome. It's not easy and it's a different journey for each of us that suffer with it, but trust me...it's a worthwhile one. My new life is amazing, and yours can be too. Take the first steps to that new life, and if I can be of any assistance to anyone reading this, feel free to reach out to me.
